Langston Hughes, WOO~ (in comments)

  1. In all honesty, I feel as though Langston Hughes does not have high enough standards for the American Dream and how to achieve it. To be more specific, he believes African-Americans have a very low chance in achieving their goals. Though the economy was harsh, and even more so for the blacks, I don't believe it is an excuse to not follow the dream. Money and economic stability are only a small part of the overall idea, and there are still things like the pursuit of happiness and success to keep individuals going.

He states that he is full of hope because he made it through the hardships his skin color brought him, but goes on to say that "America will never be America" to him. If it's not, why doesn't he make it America again? Every thought sparks an idea that sparks a movement. Though I get that he was just trying to be poetic, he comes off as though he's given up hope. I admire his courage to put up with what he has gone through, but I don't agree with him or his perspective.
